Dr Vicky Nithsdale

I am first and foremost a clinician and feel that my human ability to empathise and connect with the
feelings and experiences of the person in front of me is as important as my training and experience.
My clinical experience has been wide ranging. I have conducted therapy with adults who have
complex trauma, personality issues, psychosis and autistic spectrum conditions. Other experience
has included working systemically with staff and patients in hospitals and other care settings and
working with people who have learning disabilities in the community. My experience has also
included complex assessment and formulation of mental health issues, risk, developmental disorders
and learning disabilities in both private and NHS roles and for the family and criminal courts.
One of the types of therapy that I use is Cognitive Analytic Therapy (CAT), which is a structured
approach that focuses on a person’s relationships, shifting mood states and patterns of behaviour.
The way we relate to ourselves an others can often become stuck in unhelpful patterns and CAT is a
therapy that can help you to recognise these patterns collaboratively within a supportive and
empathetic therapeutic relationship and start to make changes in your life.
I also frequently use EMDR in my practice when I see people who are experiencing distressing
memories, dreams and flashbacks as a result of traumatic events that have happened in their lives.

EMDR is a powerful, evidence-based therapeutic approach which can help people process traumatic
memories effectively.

However, everyone is unique and you may need a combination of these approaches or something
slightly different. We would start with an initial screening appointment to identify your needs from
therapy and make a plan from there.
