Dr Rachael Alexander

I am a HCPC Registered Psychologist. For the last 10 years I have specialised in working with children and families, particularly supporting families where children had trauma and attachment related difficulties. Through my work, I have witnessed the power of the parent/carer – child relationship as part of the process of overcoming mental health difficulties that a child might be having. I often work specifically with parents and carers who either need support themselves or would like to explore difficulties that their child is having. I recognise how complex parenting can be and feel strongly
about parents and carers being able to access supportive spaces and feel heard.

I am a Board Member of the Climate Psychology Alliance. Climate Psychology is concerned with the thoughts and emotions that people have about the planet, environment, and climate crisis. My work here involves supporting young people and adults with emotions and thoughts that they have about
the crisis and/or the systems within which we are living, as well as providing resilience strategies.

How I work
My approach is warm, empathic, compassionate, and non-judgemental.
I have a Practitioner Doctorate in Counselling Psychology. As well as this my work is informed by my
additional training and experience of trauma, neurobiology, mindfulness, Theraplay, EMDR, Dyadic
Developmental Psychotherapy and Climate Psychology.

How we might work together
We will start with empathic listening, exploring the situation together. The experience of being deeply heard and accepted often empowers people to find the right way forward for themselves. I may also suggest things to try if this is what you are wanting. For example, parenting strategies to
strengthen the relationship you have with your child, or strategies to help your child with a particular difficulty they are experiencing. Often parenting your children can trigger memories, feelings, or ways of parenting from your own childhood and you may want to explore this in the sessions.

I work flexibly because people have unique needs. Some clients need lots of psychological discussion and input from me, others need to use the space as a time to practice grounding and relaxation strategies. Therefore, sessions can look very different from one client to the next.

Sessions are £70 for a 60-minute session.
